Ford Energy is now set to convert its Kentucky gigafactory to serve the large and growing demand for battery energy storage systems.
Ford Energy assumed ownership of the Glendale, Kentucky, site yesterday upon the closing of the BlueOval SK joint venture disposition agreement. The gigafactory – which successfully ran electric vehicle battery production until December 2025 – is now named Ford Energy Systems.
Retooling will be underway shortly. Ford Energy Systems operations will span full LFP prismatic battery cell manufacturing and assembly of battery energy storage system modules and 20-foot DC container systems.
Units are planned for availability from Ford Energy Systems beginning in late 2027.
Ford Energy battery energy storage systems are at the heart of the energy storage solution market for data centers, utilities, and large-scale industrial and commercial customers. Ford Energy will provide U.S.-assembled LFP prismatic battery energy storage systems, backed by domestic supply resilient to tariffs, a century of manufacturing expertise and Ford’s industrial scale.
